It All Started With The Logo...

Have you ever wondered how a website comes into existence? The story of this website begins with a simple logo—a symbol that encapsulates the essence of an institution. Join me on this journey as we explore the origins of a digital space that emerged from a coffee mug, a motto, and a passion for design.

The Motto: “Do Your Best, and Do What’s Right”

During my time at Virgil Public School, these words echoed through the hallways, classrooms, and hearts of students and staff alike. “Do your best, and do what’s right.” It wasn’t just a saying; it was a guiding principle. Even today, those words resonate within me, shaping my actions and decisions.

The Quest for a Desk Decoration

I wanted something special for my desk at work—a daily reminder of those powerful words. But I didn’t want just any decoration; I wanted it to feature the school’s logo. There was just one problem: the logo existed only on physical items like coffee mugs, and my diploma. The school, long closed has no presence online.

The Photoshop and Illustrator Hobbyist

As a hobbyist in graphic design, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Armed with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I embarked on a mission to recreate the logo digitally. I meticulously traced the logo from the coffee mug, ensuring every curve and detail was captured. It was a labor of love—a tribute to the school that had shaped me.

From Logo to Viking: The Unexpected Journey

But creativity knows no bounds. As I worked on the logo, inspiration struck. Why stop at just one design? I decided to go further and recreate the school’s viking logo as well. And then, like a snowball rolling down a hill, ideas kept coming. Colours, fonts, layouts—the website began to take shape.

And There It Was: “This”

And so, from a humble coffee mug, a motto, and a passion for design, “this” emerged—a website that celebrates education, creativity, and the spirit of doing one’s best. This website will serve as a resource for past student, staff, and the community at large.
